On July 1st CMS issued the 2012 HOPPS Proposed Rule and CMS projects that proposed payment rates under HOPPS would result in a 1.5% increase in Medicare payment for hospitals that publicly report data on 23 quality measures Hospitals not submitting data would receive a negative 0.5% update.
The final rule will be published on November 1st of this year and will be implemented on January 1st 2012.
What are the highlights for 2012?
- Payment for the acquisition and pharmacy overhead costs of separately payment drugs and biologicals is set at Average Sales Price (ASP) plus 5%
- Implementation of a new independent review process for determining the level of physician supervision of outpatient therapeutic services.
- Increasing the number of measures for reporting in either CY 2012 or 2013 for purposed of CY 2014 payment determination
- Payment adjustments to cancer hospital outpatient payments
